If you are unfamiliar with night vision this will help explain a little about what you can and cannot expect from Gen1 night vision. First let me say that Famous Trails is as good as it gets with Gen1 night vision. Viewing with Gen1 optics is not like viewing through a pair of binoculars, the image is made up of thousands of extremely sensitive light gathering cells that create the image. The image is varying shades of green and black and is sharpest toward the center of the lens and begins to blur as your view moves toward the outermost portion of the lens. Focusing both eye and objective end is required for clearest image. How far one can view and the clarity is determined by many factors including lens magnification and how much external light like stars or moon light is available, 50 to 125 yards is probably a good average, image brightness and distance can be increased with the use of a hand held infra red illuminator that is more powerful then the built in unit. This brief and very un-technical explanation is not meant to bring about a negative view on Gen1 night vision but to help you understand that there are limits to the Gen1 night vision. Many of the issues I have mentioned above are dealt with in Gen2 and Gen3 night vision but at a cost of $600 to $2500 dollars and much higher. Keep in mind that I have sold these to both individuals and law enforcement and they are very satisfied with Famous Trails Gen1 night vision and there are millions of satisfied Gen1's users world wide.
Anti-Bloom function.
Accidental activation of lesser quality units in well lit areas (flashing)
will necessitate sending the unit off to
repair. Famous Trails® night vision have "Anti-Bloom" circuitry built in to prevent
this damage. Should the unit be flashed
it may require several minutes
to re-set
itself before it can be used.
(Much better then returning the unit for costly repair wouldn't you say.)
Flashing is not a matter of if but when, "Anti-Bloom"..... it's a good thing!
IR (Infrared Illuminator)
Famous Trails® systems make it easier to view objects when there is very little
light, but cannot work in total darkness. In this situation an infrared
illuminator
can be used to provide light, enabling the Famous Trails® system to
amplify it.
The infrared illuminator can also be used in lowly lit areas, enhancing images
in changing light conditions with consistent performance. These
infrared illuminators are standard on all the Famous Trails® night vision
products above.
